Job Description: Deli Manager

Overview:

The Deli Manager at Consumers Cooperative plays a vital role in delivering outstanding service and ensuring the smooth operation of the deli department. As a key member of the retail team, the Deli Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of deli operations, including food preparation, inventory management, customer service, and compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. This position requires a hands-on approach, a passion for customer service, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Customer Service Excellence

-          Greet and assist customers in a friendly and courteous manner.

-          Provide information on deli products and their preparation.

-          Use suggestive selling techniques to enhance customer experience.

-          Handle customer concerns, resolving them efficiently or escalating them to a higher authority when necessary.

 

2. Deli Operations Management

-          Oversee the preparation of deli items, ensuring they are made neatly, accurately, and in a timely manner.

-          Maintain food safety and sanitation standards at all times.

-          Ensure the deli area is stocked, clean, and organized, adhering to company image standards.

-          Manage inventory, including ordering, checking in, and pricing merchandise.

 

3. Team Leadership

-          Train, supervise, and support deli staff, fostering a positive work environment.

-          Schedule shifts and manage staffing levels to meet business needs.

-          Lead by example, displaying a cheerful and helpful demeanor when interacting with customers and team members.

 

4. Compliance and Safety

-          Adhere to all laws, regulations, and company policies, including those related to food handling, sanitation, and safety.

-          Ensure proper handling and accounting for company monies and merchandise.

-          Be familiar with spill prevention procedures and be capable of quickly terminating product flow using emergency shut-off switches if necessary.

 

5. Physical Requirements

-          Ability to stand for extended periods and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures.

-          Physical ability to twist, turn, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.

-          Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme weather.

-          Must possess fine finger and broad manual dexterity, eye-hand-foot coordination, and the ability to operate equipment safely.

 

Qualifications:

-          Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

-          Experience: Previous experience in a retail or food service environment. 2 years in food service/management is required.

-          Certifications: Ability to acquire and maintain a food service sanitation certificate and a village retail sales liquor certificate

-          Skills: Strong leadership and customer service skills, excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure.

Working Conditions:

- The Deli Manager may occasionally be required to work at varying heights or be exposed to extreme weather conditions. The position requires standing for long periods, regular bending, stooping, and kneeling, as well as the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Proper lifting techniques and ergonomics must be used at all times.
